"Composed to remember the event of the Drums Company's day out to Calais in France. It's not often that the whole Drums Company can have a day to chill out and relax whilst serving in London district. This is due to the heavy public duty commitment at either Windsor Castle or Buckingham Palace, (i.e. Changing of the Guard ceremony). Other commitments, such as Trooping of the Colour (Queens birthday parade) each year on the second Saturday in June, not forgetting the two rehearsals for the two previous Saturdays prior to the Trooping the Colour. The massed bands of the Household Division and Beating Retreat at Horse Guards parade ground lasts for three nights a year around the 6th, 7th and 8th of June. There are also tours abroad, Edinburgh military tattoo, P.R. engagements and many other commitments. So we made the best of the day trip to Calais, May 1997."
